Outreach Committee
The Florida Players Community Outreach Committee was founded in August, 2005. The committee develops a different platform each year, formulating new ways to bring theater into the community. This year the Florida Players worked with the local YMCA, as well as Gainesville High School and Eastside High school.
Educational Theatre Group
This group is designed to provide service to the community through sharing important messages in our works, exposing the community to valuable theatrical resources, and uniting the community through education and awareness. Florida Players would like to unite with local schools to create a forum where students can relate to our stories and feel more comfortable about discussing important issues. We want to provide the student body with an experience that will not only entertain but educate and aware. To maximize our efforts, our educational theater members will be trained in the subject of our material so they may answer questions in addition to performing the piece.
As a service group, we are completely open to suggestions and collaboration with other outreach programs or services you may have already at work in your school. We encourage you to be a part of our movement to make a difference in the lives of our youth and to help us create an effective and successful educational forum.
Our current production, The Tobacco Club by KT Curran, explores the effects of tobacco on the bodies, minds, and education of our generation. The play follows 6 high school students through smoking detention. This 40 minute production was written to be performed for middle and high school audiences and has gained much praise from previous touring productions around the state of Florida with the The Source theater group. Our production should be ready to perform by the beginning of November. You can also read a short synopsis of the play.

Other Service Projects
Our committee is dedicated to bringing our resources and education to the community. Please contact us if you would like assistance with performances, workshops, or would like us to discuss college, career choices or certain aspects of theater with your students. If you have any suggestions for new projects please don't hesitate to contact us as well.
